Volunteer Examination Invigilators Requested

As many members will be aware, schools are suffering from a funding crisis.   Wetherby High School is no exception. To avoid cutting back even more on the school budget, the authorities are seeking responsible adults to act as volunteer invigilators during the examination period.
W&D U3A has been approached by Cindy Bentley, Chair of the Wetherby High School Governing Body, asking if some U3A members may be interested in helping out. Cindy describes the role as ‘a pretty boring job, but a very
responsible and important one’.

Any member interested in learning more about the role, should contact the Examinations Officer, Paul Stevens on pdstevens@wetherbyhigh.co.uk   Volunteers will have to be DBS – Disclosure and Barring Service – checked. Training in the role will be provided.

Volunteering Opportunities at Tadcaster Swimming Pool

Any of our U3A members who have visited Tadcaster Swimming Pool will know that it is an excellent local resource, providing exercise and pool facilities for all ages. Many hundreds of children learn to swim here each year.

The pool is not operated by a local authority but by Tadcaster Community Swimming Pool Trust, a registered charity. In addition to full time staff, the pool has a number of volunteers who assist in the daily operations of the facilities.

Additional volunteers are needed to help out in various functions, so if you can spare just a few hours a week in any of the following, the pool would like to hear from you.
– Reception/cash desk, Maintenance (electrical/plumbing/handyman), Gardening, Bookkeeping, IT.

Volunteers benefit from use of the facilities at very low cost.

To find out more please contact Fiona Garnett on 01937 833001 or email her at … fiona@tadcasterpool.org.uk

Volunteer Test Subjects Requested

Leeds Beckett University have requested volunteers in the 60+ age bracket to take part in a research project on resistance training and protein intake.  It sounds interesting

Please have a look at these details about the study and this detailed description if you’d like to know more.
