Richard Newman
Passed away on 29th April 2026
It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Richard Newman, one of Wetherby u3a’s founding members (Membership No. 13).
Richard, alongside his wife Julia, was a vital part of our community from the very beginning. He generously shared his immense talents and passions with us, running both the Creative Writing and French groups. Beyond his contributions to the u3a, Richard was a remarkably creative individual—a writer of several books and an artist who regularly exhibited his artwork.
To all who knew him, Richard was an inspiration—always witty and good-humoured. He will be deeply missed by his friends, group members, and the wider u3a community.
Celebration of Life
A Celebration of Life for Richard will be held on Friday, 19th June at St Mary’s Church, Boston Spa. All who knew him are welcome to attend.
